Smart-home planning and trial record
Try one specific routine with the resident, record the exact setup and agree a backup. Type into the record below, then print or save it as a PDF.

Set up a useful trial
- Choose the task: for example, operating a light from the usual chair or answering a visitor. Describe the result the resident wants.
- Identify access: check finding the control, activating it and confirming the result. Include the actual app, physical control or assistive interface.
- Record dependencies: the model, controller, hub, network, power, account and service needed for that task.
- Agree the test: use supplier-approved demonstrations for failure situations, with essential support and entry/exit arrangements maintained.
- Review with the resident: record what worked, what was difficult, the changes still needed and who will follow up.
Use the low-vision and hand-movement task map to prepare the access questions. A trial record organises observations; it does not approve an installation or replace an individual assessment.
Separate everyday control from emergency response
For alerts or help requests, confirm who receives, acknowledges and acts on them, what can be missed and the alternative if the system is unavailable. A voice routine or consumer gadget does not by itself establish a monitored response service.
For locks, moving equipment, cooking controls and electrical changes, get the appropriate assessment and local installation advice. Ask about the complete task, equipment instructions and safe operation rather than relying on a single app demonstration.
Your smart-home trial record
Use a separate copy for each setup you compare. Notes stay in this page’s memory, are not submitted and are not automatically saved. Print your copy before leaving or reloading.
Review these observations with the resident and appropriate professional. Keep the completed record securely; it may contain personal information.

Compare the complete setup and cost
Ask about the installed equipment, any separately required building or electrical work, subscriptions, servicing and replacement. Record the period covered by ongoing costs and compare the same scope. Use the whole-home cost estimator and quote-comparison sheet alongside the record.
For assessment or funding, use country starting points and ask the responsible service which equipment and work it can consider. A successful demonstration is separate from a funding decision.

Frequently asked questions
Can I type and print my smart-home trial notes?
Yes. Complete the six fields and choose Print or save my trial record. The print view keeps the heading and record with your typed values. The notes are page-local, are not submitted and are not automatically saved, so keep a copy before leaving or reloading.
How do I compare two smart-home setups?
Use a separate record for each exact model and configuration. Try the same intended task and relevant conditions with the resident, record dependencies and difficulties, and confirm the backup and support arrangement. A feature list alone is not the trial result.
Where can I check funding for environmental controls?
Start with the country resources and ask the relevant local assessment or funding service about its criteria and the exact equipment and work proposed. Confirm any decision in writing before relying on it. A consumer purchase, specialist service and separately required building work can involve different arrangements.
