Bathroom modification budget estimator

Accessible Home Hub editorial · Updated 7 October 2026

Build an itemised planning range from selected adaptations and your own local allowances. Compare complete scopes before requesting quotes.

Bathroom renovation scene showing a finished low-entry shower with glass screen and installer discussing the work with homeowner.
Illustrative setting; individual needs and installation requirements vary.

Check funding routes for senior bathroom adaptations alongside your budget. Keep an unconfirmed grant or tax decision separate from money available for the work.

Planning several rooms or access routes? Use the whole-home cost estimator to include this bathroom subtotal once, add shared fees and plan first and later phases. Whole-home tool link added 30 October 2026; the bathroom figures below retain their original illustrative status.

Build your scope

A user-adjustable allowance for uncertainty, not a recommended universal percentage.

Approach changes the scope note, not the prices. Enter actual allowances for the chosen approach rather than applying an assumed discount or surcharge.

    Before relying on a budget

    Check what each amount includes

Confirm survey, design, preparation, structural work, waterproofing, plumbing, electrical work, finishes, disposal, permits and taxes. Avoid counting shared work twice. The calculator only sums the allowances you enter; it cannot detect overlapping quotes.

    Choose adaptations around the person

A taller toilet, bidet, walk-in tub or curbless shower is not automatically suitable for every resident. Check transfers, reach, assistance and room layout before buying. Grab-bar mounting must match the assessed wall and product instructions.

    Professional scope still matters

DIY does not remove the need for qualified work, permissions or inspections. CAPS is an aging-in-place education designation; do not assume the holder is an occupational therapist, licensed trade or compliance certifier. Verify their separate qualifications and agreed responsibilities.

    Keep estimates separate from funding

Contingency is not a grant or discount. Funding, VAT or tax relief, insurance and regional approvals need separate confirmation. Estimates stay in this page’s memory and are not submitted or automatically saved.

    Prepare for your next conversation

Compare written scopes, exclusions and aftercare with an assessor or contractor.

    Method & professional context

Calculation: selected lower and upper allowances summed separately, then each increased by your contingency percentage. No market-price prediction or automatic labour adjustment is made.

NAHB: Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist designation. Checked 7 October 2026.

    Frequently asked questions

Are the starting figures verified current prices?

No. They are illustrative USD allowances. Replace them with local estimates for a consistent scope including materials and installation.

Does changing currency convert the amounts?

No. Changing currency clears the amounts so you can enter local allowances without an assumed exchange rate.
